Song: Paise Ka Jantar, Paise Ka Mantar, Paisa-Paisa Chhoo
Jaati Jaan Palat Kar Aaye, Gazab Tera Jaadu,
Pal~~at! ...
Film: Paisa Hi Paisa (1956)
Music: Anil Biswas
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri
Singer: Kishor Kumar and his fun loving chorus
*ing: Kishor Kumar, Ushakiran?
Ever since I have heard this song, am in it's love. Plainly for
it's ability to entertain. I always listen to it with an element
of surprise, and that is about it's music director. Before I
heard one more song of this gener (this was the first of it's
kind composed by him, that I heard) sung by Mohammad Rafi, I was
unable to associate Anil-da with this nice number. A very unusual
composition from him. Kishor is in pink of his mood and does all
sorts of vocal tricks to make it a good entertainer. With chorus
it's more enjoyable. Examples of his vocal experiments come for
following lines:
.... Karta Murga, Bole Kukduh Koo~~h
and then after each antaraa:
Kishor: ...., Gazab Tera Jaadu!
Chorus: Paisa Ka ... Gazab Tera Jaadu
Kishor: Pala~~t! [Sings gazab as 'gajab' ! ]
Kishor: Chhoo Chhoo Mantar,
Hai Jadu Mantar
Chhoo-
Chhoo Chhooooo
And towards the end: Chorus is singing mukhada and then it's
Kishor's turn to say -- 'Pala~~t!' which he actually does not
sing but just speaks, every time at the end of stanza, with some
urge, adding some element of surprise (I have not seen the movie
but looks like he is trying to play some trick with some object
[live/dead])! But the fun is (it looks like) the "thing" doesn't
obey his command anymore and then he sings (speaks) slowly, with
deliberately torned voice showing his disbelief combined with
surprise (now his turn :-)), almost like crying:
'Arre~~! Tera Pyaar Kidhar Hai BaabaaA!'
And it ends!!
Great singing indeed. Here is a Kishor, we know all this time.
That soft, low and little nasal tone, present in his voice till
very recent Rukhsana (1955), is now missing in this 1956
production (and I guess there after, in all songs). Although I
miss that quality in his songs, (does not mean, I don't like his
later songs), I feel for this kind of songs lack of it, is most
suitable.
Well, I have heard only one song from the film which is by
Kishor, Asha and Lata Don't remember wordings now.
Paisa Hi Paisa, must be the last Kishor Kumar-Anil Biswas
combination.
