Song: Na Yeh Chaand Hoga, Na Taare Rahenge
Manar Hum Hamesha, Tumhaare Rahenge
Film: Shart (1954)
Music: Hemant Kumar
Lyrics: S. H. Bihari
Singer: Geeta Roy
*ing: Manish, Shyama
So many people have been mesmerised by this simple - yet
striking, tune and by gentle singing of Geeta Roy. A sad version
of Geeta-Hemant tandem. Only three instruments can be heard.
Saarangi in the background and Tabala for maintaining the taal.
You hear Sitar on 'sum' near the end of first line of each
stanza. Both Hemant and Geeta Roy are immortalised by this song.
I know only three other songs from the film. One by Rajendra
Krishan and others by Shamshul Huda Bihari. All featuring Lata
Mangeshkar. Two of them are quite popular. And are beautiful
numbers:
Meri Taqdir Ke Malik, Mera Kuchh Faisla Kar De (Lata)
and
Dekho, Woh Chaand Chhup Ke, Karata Hai Kya Ishare, Dekho
Shayad Ye Keh Raha Hai, Hum Ho Gaye Tumhare, Ho Gaye
Tumhare, Dekho..
This second one is a Hemant-Lata duet. That leaves us with
Rajendra Krishna song to mention to: It's a Lata solo - a sad
one. I haven't heard it for quite some time now, hence can't say
much about it. But, from memory-bank: I find it a nice tune. It
may turn out that someone may like it more than 'Meri Taqdir Ke
Malik' number.
Aye Mere Chaman Main Hun Woh Kali ....
This brings us to an end of this current phase of Hemant
Mukherjee's songs. Next month, I will be posting songs that I
find irresistible and are my all time favourites.
