Song: Prit Jata Ke Mit Bana Ke~~
Suno Ji Bhul Na Jana, Suno Ji Bhula Na Jana
Film: Hulchal (1951)
Music: Mohammad Shafi
Lyrics: Khumar Barabankavi
Singer: Mohammad Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Dilip Kumar, Nargis
Sometime back, I had promised to talk about Mohammad Shafi, and
here it is. This film, is known for one song, and a classic one
at that, of Lata Mangeshkar, composed by late Sajjad Hussain:
'Aaj Mere Naseeb Ne Muzako Rula Rula Diya'. If many on this forum
fills the choice of today's song unjustified; when there is this
Lata solo, then I agree with them, but partly. For, those who
have heard this song will also agree with me, that this song
deserves a berth too. Those who like Rafi-Lata duets by Pt.
Husnalal Bhagatram, will definitely like this one too. I know
only 5 or 6 films of this extremely talented music composer.
This very film has 5 songs by him. The only other Sajjad Hussain
song, I know is: 'Luta Mera Dil Hae Abaad Ho Kar Hae Abaad Ho
Kar' by Lata. It's a song carrying an unmistakable Sajjad stamp.
Well enough of him, from this film. Let's talk about M. Shafi.
There are two more excellent Rafi-Lata duets in the film:
'Kismat Ke Sitare Dub Gaye, Duniya Me Hamara Koi Nahi
Tum Ham Se Juda Ham Tum Se Juda, Jeene Ka Sahaara
Koi Nahi' and
'O Bichhade Hue Sathi Jiun Kaise Bata
De (Lata)
Ujadi Hui Duniya Ko Meri Aa Ke Basa De
O Bichhade? Hue Sathi Na Ro Ro Ke Saja
De (Rafi)
Fariyaad Teri Gham Ko Mere Fir? Na Badhha De'
Lata's voice is very crisp in the first song. In the second duet
it's Rafi, who does a superb job.
And finally film has one more Lata solo by Mohammad Shafi, known
to me:
'Hae Sadake Tere O Baanke Mere
Teri Har Baat Matwaali Hai'
A far better tune than a similar song of her for Naushad: 'Tere
Sadake Balam' in Amar (1953).
All the songs in the film are by Khumar Barabankavi.
Some other songs from him, almost all from Lata, are in Zindagi,
Bajuband, Annadata and Daara. I will touch each one of them
later.
