Song: Haay unki woh nigaahen
Dil dekhe jin ki raahen
Koi unse jaa ke poochhe
Hum kyoon na unhe chaahen
Film: Aakhri Daao (1958)
Singer: Asha Bhosle
Music: Madan Mohan
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri (?)
*ing: Nutan, Shekhar, Shammi
And yet another Asha-for-Nutan gem, also delectably picturized.
This one has Nutan sitting in the back seat of a cab (with pal
Shammi) merrily belting out this melody, completely oblivious to
the fact that the object of her affection is actually driving the
cab himself. (I'm curious to see the big Oops that would
inevitably follow this song.)
This is a very OPN-esque tune, IMO - the first time I heard it I
de-facto assumed that the MD was OPN - and was rather taken aback
when I discovered it was Madan Mohan (which was when I saw the
other diamond from this movie: Rafi's incomparable 'Tujhe kya
sunaaoon main dilruba').
Isn't this a slightly unusual MD-artiste pair ? Are there a lot
of Asha-MM songs around ?
Finally, for those who've heard this song before, this *is* Asha,
isn't it ? (Reason I ask is, it's been a long time since I saw or
heard this song, and as far as my memory serves me the voice was
Asha's.. but, there *is* a non-zero probability that I may be
wrong, in which case I plead temporary dyslexia, appending the
customary Oops !). Also, is this song available in any
compilation ? Would love to have it.
