Song: Kaise Bhaye Sakhi Rut Sawan Ki,
Piya Bheje Na Patiyaan Aawan Ki..........
Film: Pehli Jhalak (1954) Music: C. Ramchandra
Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Kishore Kumar, Vyjayantimala
This film has two of my favorite CR/Lata songs. They are both
semi-classical compositions, composed and sung wonderfully and I
had a tough time deciding which one to pick as my showcase song
for this film. I chose this song mainly because of its simplicity
and the musical interludes. The notes for this song go something
like: F F D C B C D B A B A B C F G A B C D C D
B C A B C..........
Can any 'guru' out there figure out what could be the possible
ragas this song is based on. I know I do not have any sharps and
flats notated here, so I am sure more than one raag will fit:-)
The sitar in the first interlude and the flute in the second are
extremely melodious. After the second 'antara' the rhythym
changes to a faster beat('drut'). And what can I say of Lata's
singing here - she is very sweet and precise as usual:-) Easily,
one of the best CR/Lata songs.
My second favorite song is:
'Na Maaro Nazariyaa Ke Baan
Akeli Aayi Paniyaan Bharan, Paniyaan Bharan....'
This is a complex melody and a tougher song to sing and Lata does
so without any problem at all. This is yet another Krishna/gopi
kind of song that Vjy. carries off very well in the film. Great
song with a fabulous voice control displayed by LM.
Lata has four other solos (well, it's a CR film:-)), and each of
these is very melodious. They are:
'Chhodoji Kalaii, O Pyar Ki Duhaii, Koi Dekh Le Ga'
'Aachhi Soorat Hui Yah Musibat....Gali Mein Aana Jana
Bandh' 'Oonchi Oonchi Dukaan, Pheeka Pheeka Pakwan'
'Zamane Se Nirala Hai Teri Ulfat Ka Afsana'
CR has two songs based on 'lavani' in this film. The first is the
LM number he once again does his man/woman routine on the screen.
'Charandas Ko Peene Ki Jo Aadat Na Hoti To Aaj
Miyan Bahar, Biwi Andar Na Soti'
Hemantda has one song here which is quite average.
'Zameen Chal Rahi Hai Aasmaan Chal Raha Hai'
Finally, there is one qawalli by Asha which I do not remember:-(
Overall, yet another great soundtrack from CR - chock full of LM
classics. All you LM fans who don't have this - go out and get
this and you will not be disappointed.
