Song: Sub Dushman Is Ik Jaan Ke, Badale Rang Jahaan Ke
Film: Shikast (1953)
Music: Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics: Shailendra
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Nalini Jayvant, Dilip Kumar
I saw this film in 1991. I was told by an old friend it's having
one of the best title music by Shankar Jaikishan. Well, I can't
comment on this, I missed that part, but otherwise the entire
soundtrack is treasure. This Shankar composed song is one of my
favourite from the film. He also composed this other gem of a
song, again with Lata
Kaare Badaraa Tu Na Ja, Na Ja; Bairi Tu Bides Na Jaa
Gha-na-na-na Megh Malhaar Suna ....
Nalini Jaywant steals the entire show by her great performance.
She sings this on screen, under cloudy, open sky in country side.
Each song is placed, composed very thoughtfully.
And who can forget this absolute gem by Talat
Sapano Ki Suhaani Duniya Ko, Aankhon Me Basaana Mushkil
Hai
A long sitar recital, as prelude is just superb. I wouldn't be
surprised if some one calls it one of Shankar Jaikishan's best.
Entire song is carried by Talat, sitar, tabla and
saarangi/harmonium.
One more good Talat solo, written by Hasrat Jaipuri was:
Tufaan Se Giri Hain Meri, Taqdeer Ki Raahen
Here, contrary to 'Sapanon Ki Suhaani' we have medium to heavy
orchestration. But enjoyable song. Talat sung one more song (by
Shailendra) with Lata. As usual it's delicate duet of theirs:
Jab Jab Phul Khile, Tuze Yaad Kiya Hum Ne, Jab Jab Phul
Khile
Dekh Akelaa Hame, Gher Liyaa Hum Ko Gam Ne,
.................
Here too, we have nice sitar pieces. Very pleasant song.
Well, we also have Hemant Kumar and Rafi also singing in this
truly memorable film. Hemant sung a background number (that is
played during credits): Hum To Hain Khel Khilaune. Rafi sung a
chorus song with Lata, which is tandem. This one is: Nai Zindagi
Se Pyaar Kar Ke Dekh, Uske Rup Ka Singaar Kar Ke Dekh, Us Pe Jo
Bhi Hai Nisaar Kar Ke Dekh ... Lata and chorus sings other
version.
Finally, one more Lata solo penned by Hasrat
Raat Jaag Ke Nikaalun Tere Intezaar Me
This song has good 'utaar-chadhaav'.
Note: I am away till end of first week of May.
