Song: Hae, Dil Bhi Diya To Kisako Diya (2)
Ek Dil Baalam, Ek Dil Zaala(i)m
Hae, Pyaar Kiya To Kisako Kiya
Ek Dil Baalam .................
Film: Meena Bazaar (1950)
Music: Pt. Husnalal Bhagatram
Lyrics: Qamar Jalalabadi
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Nigar Sultaana?, ?
Wanted to talk about this film for long time. It has all hit(!)
songs. Well, may be, a youngster born in/after late 1960s, may
question that; the fact is when this was released, songs were
really hit. I have heard only one Lata solo from the film (and
probably there is only one solo of here). Song has nice tune and
good platform to be one of best of this pair; but Latabai seems
to have some problem here, IMO. Every time I hear the song, Lata
gives impression that she was struggling with running nose!
Anyway, because of tune I always enjoy it all the time. Song's
opening couplet is
Tuze Barbaad Karanaa Tha, Muze Barbaad Hona Tha
???????? [ sorry, don't remember :( ] ?????????
Actually I keep confusing this opening couplet with another
opening couplet of other Lata number of Nazaria (1953). :(
Film has one good Rafi solo in 'Na Chamkenge Aansoo, Na Rukenge
Naale'. Don't remember this song in it's entirety now, but can
write here that it's a good number. Apart from these two solos,
film has some exquisite Lata-Rafi duets.
One in particular
O~~~ Maahi O, Maahi O, Dupatta Mera De De
is unforgettable. Lata's sweet and early Rafi's buttery voice
spread magic. This one is now available on HMV's Vintage
Favourites (1949-1952) collection, which also contains my all
time favourite by Sandhya Mukherjee from Sazaa (1952) "Koi Muze
Samjhaae Re, Kyun Aaj Dil Sharmaae Re' (primary reason of my
buying the album) as well as Gulam Mohammad's great Paaras (1950)
number sung by Rafi: "Dil Ki Lagi Ne Hum Ko Diwaana Kar Ke
Chhoda'
My favourite duet from Meena Bazaar happens to be
Paas Aake Hue Hum Door, Hum Door
Yehi Tha Qismat Ko Manzoor, Yehi Tha Qismat Ko
Manzoor
An extremely melodious number by the duo. Flute and saarangi
pieces come alive in the interludes. Other famous duets are
Apanaa Banaa Ke Chhod Nahi Jaana, Chhod Nahi Jaana
Royenge Hum ????, Hansega Jahaan ....
and
Duniyaa Hai Barbaad Meri.... Meena Bazaar Hai? Ye? Meena
Bazaar (Chorus)
The former is a song that one can easily identify as Pt. HB
composition, being of a genre better known through songs like
'Sun Mere Saajana Re' of Ansoo(1953). Other number (Meena
Bazaar, Meena Bazaar) is Lata, Rafi and chorus song. It has
excellent composition. Song is sung high and chorus sings "Meena
Bazaar ...", low in background. Great number indeed.
