Songs sung at two different planes (w.r.t. pitch) by two or more
singers in it, are special in my book. I love them all. And not
many music composers achieved it, anyway. In the elite club, I
find only few names -- Pankaj Mullick, Hemant Muhkopadhyay, Datta
Koregaonkar, Hansraj Behl and Roshan. [ I am sure, Chair- person
in house of Lords -- Anil Biswas, must also have experimented
with this kind of songs. One can also argue in favour of Jamal
Sen for 'Devata Tum Ho Mera Sahara'; and perhaps Bulo C. Rani for
his efforts in Suraiya starrer Bilva Mangal. ] Today's song
illustrates Roshan's prowess in this form of art.
#108
Song: Zindagi Badali Muhobat Ka Maza Aane Laga, Hae
Zindagi Badali
Dil Ke Tukade Ho Gaye, Har Saans Tadapaane Laga,
Hae Zindagi ...
Film: Anhoni (1952)
Music: Roshan
Lyrics: Nakshab Jarachvi
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar, Rajkumari
*ing: Raj Kapoor, Nargis
I have always liked Rajkumari's voice. Sounds always sweet and
fresh. Here she sings at higher pitch and Lata at lower. The
synchronisation and switch to other pitch is flawless. Brilliant
composition by Roshan. Rajkumari sings on happy notes whereas
Lata on sad. Sarangi is put to an effective use by Roshan.
Lata sings one more sad song written by Sardar Jafri: Is Dil Ki
Haalat Kya Kahiye, Jo Shaad Bhi Hai, Nashad Bhi Hai -- a
beautiful number.
Film has two exquisite Tatal duets with Lata:
Mere Dil Ki Dhadakan Kya Bole? Kya Bole?
Main Jaanu Aur Tu Jaane
Mera Pyaar Bhara Man Kyun Dole? Kyun Dole?
Main Jaanu Aur Tu Jaane
Questions asked melodiously, repeated and then answered one and
same thing all the time. Very nice song. Other song (by
Shailendra), and my favourite is
Samaa Ke Dil Me Hamaare, Zara Khayaal Rahe
Hame Na Koi Pukaare, Zara Khayaal Rahe
The sweetness of this song reminds Ramchandra Chitalkar's Lata
compositions.
And finally one very melodious Talat song (nazm ?)
Main Dil Hun Ik Armaan Bharaa
Tu Aake Muze Pehchaan Zaraa
This one is also my favourite. It has some beautiful lyrics and
very nice music by Roshan. Piano is just too good here. And look
at the lyrics
Khud Maine Husna Ke Haathon Se, Shokhi Ka Chhalakta Jaam
Piya
Gaalon Ko Gulaabon Ka Rutabaa, Kaliyon Ko Labon Ka Naam
Diya
Aankhon Se Piya Saagar Geharaa, Tu Aake Muze Pehchaan
Zara
simply superb!
