Song: Dekhoji Mera Ji~ya Churaye Liye Jaa~~ye, De~khoji
Ji`ya Churaaye Liye Jaa~y (2), Dekhoji Mera Jiya
.....
Film: Naubahar (1951)
Music: Roshan
Lyrics: Shailendra
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Ashok Kumar, Nalini Jaywant
I suppose this one is most celebrated soundtrack of Roshan (from
1950s). Each song is a gem. My vote for the best song is this,
which HMV/EMI decided to omit in the album released. I don't know
which raag is used to compose the tune, it certainly sounds
semi-classical rendition. Very melodious, slow number.
Other favourites from the film include
Kisi Surat Lagi Dil Ki Bahel Jaaye To Achchha Ho
Tamanna Ek Naye Saanche Me Dhhal Jaaye To Achchha Ho
proving well beyond any doubts that Roshan was no less a composer
when it came to compose a tune for a gazal. I also like Rajkumari
mujra
Kajraari Matwaari Do Akhiyan, Piya Tori Kajraari ...
I guess, this was ideal choice. I don't know if Rajkumari had
classical training ; based on this, can guess she must be
accomplished thumri/kajri/tappa singer.
Rest of the songs are all Lata affair. My next favourite Lata
song happens to be
Wo Paas Nahin Majboor Hai Dil, Ham Aas Lagaye Baithe Hain
Ummid Bhare Armaano Ka Tufaan Chhupaaye Baithe Hain
Nakshab Jaarachvi lyrics, sung very well by Lata. I love the
orchestration of this song. One more song by same poet is also
equally good: Kahan Hai, Tu Kahan Hai Meri Duniya Luntane Waale
Then there is a song by Shailendra -- Phul Chunle Mere Baalam Ke
Jaane Kab Daal Zuke, Ke Jaane Kab... -- again melodious number.
Very fresh indeed. This song was also included in Firdaus (1953).
The way Lata goes up at 'Ke Jaa~ne Kab' is very sweet.
Finally the most popular song-bhajan credited to Satyendra
Atthaiya. I don't know what are the differences between his
version and Meerabai's, though. Anyway it's a masterpiece. Lata
at her very best for this one
Ai Ri Main To Prem Diwaani, Mera Darad Na Jaane Koy
This was in two parts. Roshan's creativity at it's best. Only
other occasion where Meera bhajans appeal me as much, is Bulo C.
Rani's great musical treat in Jogan (1950) sung by queen Geeta
Roy. Fatima Begum, played Meerabai's role in a memorable way. I
wonder if any actress, but Nargis, could have done justice to it
? Anyway, let Jogan songs come up some other day.
